Helping Others – Bone Marrow Registry

My paternal grandfather weighed 76 pounds when he died. He died of bone marrow cancer and he was in a lot of pain for the last couple of years of his life. If he could have gotten a bone marrow transplant he might have lived longer and died without being in so much pain. There is a bone marrow registry that makes it easy to help others. There are two things you can do right now to help

  1. Register to become a bone marrow donor at the DKMS Registry. They will send you a swabbing kit  to give a saliva sample that you return to the lab for HLA-tissue typing. It literally takes five minutes to register and two minutes to do the swabbing. If you have any questions, please contact DKMS at (866)-340-3567 (DKMS) or email info@dkmsamericas.org. You may never be contacted as a potential match, but you never know who or how you can help. So please try this out!
  2. If you love to paint your nails, OPI is having a special this August for its new “I love DKMS” nail polish, which is a beautiful red. A portion of the sales (I read up to $20,000) will go to DKMS.
Both Vogue (p. 142) and Marie Claire (p. 182) highlight the bone marrow registry this month in their print magazines.
