Morality for Beautiful Girls

I’ve hit my reading pile hard so far this summer — My mom gives me a pile of books every so often and I finally made it through a couple of them. I finished these in a week after not having read anything but magazines for months. The book I finished this weekend is Morality for Beautiful Girls by Alexander McCall Smith. It is part of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series. (It’s best to start the series at the beginning because the storyline carries through.)

I like the “real” thoughts about people in these books – how they act, how they think, whether they can just get over themselves and do the right thing, etc. This particular book talks a lot about women and in particular the women that run things and take care of things – from Mma Romatswe (the Lady Detective) to Mma Makutsi, her assistant, to Mma Potokwane, who runs an orphanage.

Mma Romatswe’s finance ends up with depression, checking out completely, and she and her assistant take over his auto repair shop while he is away, whipping it into shape in no time and all the while solving  entertaining cases. It’s a very light, quick read. Perfect for summer.

Leave me a comment and let me know what you are reading this summer.
