Making or Buying Pizza Dough?

We tried the ready made pizza dough from Trader Joe’s this week. It was entertaining to say the least. We followed the instructions to let the dough breathe for 20 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Then we  rolled it out by hand and added our sauce and toppings.

We made two different kinds of pizza. One crust was an herb dough and the other was a whole wheat dough. For both pizzas, I used the tomato sauce from a spicy spaghetti I had made awhile ago and had in the freezer. One pizza was sliced meatballs from the spaghetti and the other was a half salami/pepperoni and half cheese pizza  because McKinley still doesn’t like anything on his pizza except cheese.

The verdict was that the doughs both tasted good but the pizzas could have been cooked a little bit longer. The sauce was a little too thick on the meatball pizza for everyone’s taste. All in all, we would try the Trader Joe’s pizza dough again.

I personally prefer making my own pizza dough in the bread maker – it spread a little bit better and thinner, making it slightly crispier. I think we’ll have to try them on the same day and do a side by side comparison!

Have you tried the pizza dough from Trader Joe’s? Made your own pizza dough by hand or in a bread maker? Leave a comment and let me know what you prefer.
