Snow Flurries in August? Or Just Extra Fleece?

It was so cold in August you might have thought there were snow flurries here in the Bay Area. But that wasn’t the case, it just felt like it was so cold that it could have snowed. I used the time in August to complete a few sewing projects around the house. I had a stash of blue and gold fleece to make the boys vests or pullovers. The boys each decided that they didn’t want any  fleece vests or pullovers (and besides, we can now find CAL clothes at Target at VERY low prices, probably lower than the price of the fleece fabric on sale).

So, what am I supposed to do with all of this blue & gold fleece? (Plus a few fun patterned fleece fabrics I found in the remnant bin at 50% off???) I found a couple of patterns to make hats, scarves, mittens, and other fleece items.

The patterns were very, very easy to make and were completely adjustable to make bigger or smaller as needed. After awhile I got tired of doing the same pattern over and over and moved on to different styles. I didn’t have any fleece binding and had to go in search of that. I could only  find it in black, red or white – so you’ll see a theme in the hats that I did make.

I think I made 32 hats in all (not including the perfect gifts I made for my friend Karen and her daughter).  Jasper chose a hat that he really wanted to wear after a lot of hemming and hawing over all of them. I can’t find my fabulous ski hat from Iceland, so I am going to use one of the black full face fleece hats. I’ll be selling the rest at our craft fair in November. Let me know if you want one before then and I can reserve it for you! And for Cal fans – there are a lot of blue & gold ones in there.

  1. I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good. I do not know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous blogger if you aren’t already 😉 Cheers!
