Summer Project Reality

I started to make my own list of things to do this summer but it ended up with things on it like – do our taxes, file paperwork, reorganize my closet and after about 7 or 8 of things like this, I went, ouch, stop – I don’t want to do all of these yucky things, I what to do fun things (even though all those yucky things really needed to get done). So, I stopped writing my own list and just took things one day at a time. I spent a lot of time sewing and watching movies. You can see a few of the details of one of the projects – stumbling on the perfect gift

I spent a lot of time having people over or visiting friends – that was really nice because we didn’t have to hurry to anything. We played a lot of board (not bored) games and did a few puzzles. I spent a lot of time with McKinley and Bryce, coaching their baseball team – that was a lot of fun. It was sand lot baseball so it was a lot mellower than the regular little league season. Everyone got a chance to pitch which made for some very entertaining (and long) games. I loved spending time at the pool with the kids. They built a new water park area for the kids at our athletic club. I caught up (or tried to catch up) on my knitting and could try out my new purple, ruffled bikini.

Mostly, I caught up on a few things I wasn’t able to get to during the frenetic pace of the school year. You can see few of the sewing projects here (shorts) and here (hats). You can see a few of the bigger projects here (seat cushion covers) and here (chair seats). Most of all I loved the summer garden produce and what we tried to figure out for cooking eggplant to make it palatable for non-eggplant lovers. I did do a bit of reading and listened to books on CD while I walked the neighborhoods. I think this pace let the kids wind down from a crazy school year and they were really ready to start school (even if it was before summer officially ended).

What was on your list for this summer? And what did you have the most fun doing?
