National Day of Service and Remembrance Sept. 11th

The 10th Anniversary of September 11th is coming up and there is a nationwide movement to remember this tragedy with a day of service. The National Park Service has plenty of opportunities to participate in this day of service, no matter where you live in the US.

We have visited many, many National Parks and try to help out whenever we can – mostly picking up trash. Enjoy these pictures from a few major parks plus a bunch of the lesser known parks we have visited.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, there is plenty to do in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The Parks Conservancy has teamed with the Sierra Club and HandsOn Bay Area to provide volunteer opportunities specifically on 9/11/11 to lend a hand. For details – call 415-561-3044 or visit www.parksconservancy.org to find out more.

Bonus day – On September 24th there is National Public Lands Day and you can lend a hand to many of the public lands, national parks, etc. See your local National Parks to find specific projects in your area – or you can always come visit me and go to ones here in the Bay Area.

Leave a comment with what your plans are for Sept. 11th.
