Celebrating the Small Things

You don’t see this every day? How often does your 8th grader come home and say he was the first one to hug his teacher on her first day back to school? Jasper and a friend came home from school today and were so excited that their teacher was back in the classroom (after having taken the past two weeks off to be with her family after a tragic accident and the death of her father) – he said excitedly – “I got to give Inga the first hug!”

Now, a little background here – Jasper met Inga when he was 6 and went to Educare the last week of summer before he started Kindergarten. Inga just happened to be teaching that week. When school started a week later, Jasper refused to go to his Kindergarten classroom because he insisted that Inga was his teacher. Well, long story short, Inga was a 4th grade teacher who moved to teach 7-8 just as Jasper was entering 4th grade. So, after 7 years at CLC, he finally got to be in her classroom as a 7th grader last year and we were very thankful!

I took a walk past her classroom to snap pictures of the welcome back messages that her 7th and 8th graders painted on the classroom windows!

I love our school. I love that the kids were so excited about her and concerned about her for what she was going through the last two weeks. They observed that she was in a better mood than the expected her to be in after going through such a tough period. GO INGA!!!
