I Love Yarn Day

Did you know that today is the very first National I love Yarn Day? I’m sure it’s just a merchant ploy to sell more yarn, but it’s good to have recognition of this awesome fiber!

I love yarn. I love to knit. I have a huge stash of yarn – color coded and stored carefully. I think I have enough yarn to open my own yarn store without adding any more inventory – I have the books, the needles, the patterns, the yarn… you get the picture.

I now have people giving me yarn. I keep some, but I try to pass on yarn that others can use. I just dropped off a ton at the Senior Center in town – the seniors make items that they then sell in their store. I like that I can give someone something useful to do.

I have also been giving yarn to our Educare (after school) program who uses it for the kids in after school care – not to tie them up but to teach them how to knit. We also use it in our Fine Arts Block when we have a knitting class. I taught that class a few years ago and there were mostly 8th grade boys and a few girls in it. The boys were great – they paid attention more than the girls (because the girls had already learned in girl scouts or had at least encountered knitting before). The boys were completely new to knitting and paid close attention to learning how to knit.

Here's a hint at (one of) my current knitting projects.

Happy I love Yarn Day!
